Status: May 2002 - Memantine approved for the treatment of Alzheimer's Disease by the regulatory authorities in the European Union. Sold by Merz Pharmaceuticals GmbH under the brand name Axura®.

October 2003 - Memantine approved by U.S. FDA for moderate-to-severe Alzheimer's disease. Sold by Forest Laboratories under the brand name Namenda.

Under an exclusive marketing arrangement, NTI has the right to receive royalty payments from Merz and its marketing partners.
Benefit: Improvement in functional independence and reduction in required level of care.
